With a ribber and a standard gauge machine you can have up to 400 needles at your fingertips! Did you know that you can knit in the round? (no seams). BUT, remember automatic patterning (punchcard or electronics) only happens on the main bed. So knitting in the round is strictly for stockinette only

Another option is to create WIDE fabrics with both beds in work. Instead of a tube, you can create a single piece of knitting that is up to 400 needles wide! It takes a bit of concentration, and it will only produce stockinette.
