I have had this book for years and constantly refer to it. Janet Nabney is an excellent teacher and her chapter on pattern design is first class with clear explanations of every stage of the design process.

Iif buying just 1 book, buy this. At 192 pages it is full of information, but not overvelming. It goes inn i every aspect of making a garment (technics, different machines by brand and model (by that time, not DAK), from set up to finish a garment, how to fix dropped stitches, with clean step by step drawings, patterns, stitch patterns, .finishing...to making your own garment design. t is the only book i know, that explains clearly technics with informations side by side for silver/brother/passap, that makes it even possible to transfer a passap pattern to your machine by understanding the technical differences. She explaines heavy themes easy and with a sense of humor. I espessially love the clear drawings in the books.
