What is Cut and Sew - and why would I use it?

Cut and Sew lets you shape knitted fabric by cutting and finishing edges, instead of doing all the shaping on the machine.

Cutting your knitting for the first time feels a bit like a leap of faith! Start with this simple practice exercise to get a feel for how the fabric behaves before you move on to a real garment.

Try This

  • Knit a small swatch: Use a 4" x 4" square in a light-colored yarn so your stitches are easy to see.
  • Mark your line: Use a contrasting thread or tailor’s chalk to mark exactly where you want to "cut."
  • Practice the cut: take a deep breath 😊, use your sharpest shears to cut 3/8" away from your line and watch how the stitches react.
