Changing your cast-on stitch count affects more than the first row.
Most knitting patterns use the cast-on stitch count to calculate shaping throughout the garment. If you change the cast-on, you may also need to adjust:
- Increase and decrease counts
- Armhole shaping
- Neckline shaping
- Sleeve shaping
- Finishing stitch counts
Simply changing the cast-on number does not update the rest of the pattern. Review your pattern carefully and make any additional adjustments needed before you begin knitting.
