In this practice, you will be working with 2 increase methods and 2 decrease methods.
Follow the video in the previous section.
The goals:
- Get comfortable transferring stitches
- Compare working shaping on the edge stitch versus leaving a seaming stitch
- Experiment with leaving eyelets next to the increases
- Cast on 20 stitches.

Knit 4–6 rows.
Decreases -
On the right:
- Transfer the edge stitch one needle to the left, putting 2 stitches on 1 needle.
- Place the emptied needle out of work.

On the left:
- Transfer the 2 left edge stitches 1 needle to the right, putting 2 stitches on the 2nd needle from the left.
- Place the emptied needle out of work.
- (18 stitches) Knit 2 rows.
- Repeat these decreases 5 more times. Twelve stitches decreased (8 stitches remaining).

Knit 4 rows.
Increases -
On the right:
- Transfer the right-most stitch 1 needle to the right.
- Pick up the heel of the stitch in the row below and fill the emptied needle.
- For best results, use the bump from the 3rd stitch below, not the stitch that was moved.

On the left:
- Transfer 2 stitches to the left.
- Leave the emptied needle in working position (do not fill the emptied needle).
- (10 stitches) Knit 2 rows.
- Repeat these increases 5 more times. Twelve stitches increased (20 stitches).
- Knit 4 rows.
- Bind off.
