Lesson 6: Cast on Options
Your Turn
Use the videos in the previous section and practice these cast on techniques.
e-Wrap Cast On (with Waste Yarn)
- Set the carriage for plain knitting.
- Put 20–30 needles into work.
- Using waste yarn similar in weight to your garment yarn, e-wrap cast on.
- Knit a few rows with the waste yarn. End with the carriage on the left.
- Knit 1 row with ravel cord.
- Move the carriage to the right.
- Starting on the left, e-wrap cast on with the garment yarn over all needles.
- Thread the carriage.
- Continue knitting.
- Drop the knitting from the machine.
Chain Cast On (with Waste Yarn)
- Cast on with waste yarn and ravel cord.
- Starting on the left, follow the video demonstration.
- Form a slip knot and place it on your latch tool.
- Insert the tool between the first and second needle.
- Catch the working yarn in the hook of the tool.
- Pull the strand through the slip knot, forming a new loop.
- Keeping the new loop on the hook of the tool, position the tool between the next two needles.
- Catch the working yarn again and pull it through the loop on the hook to form a chain.
- Continue chaining across all the needles.
- Knit for a few inches.
- Drop the work from the machine.
