Lesson 5: Your Success Depends on This
Measure Gauge
Accurate gauge swatching and accurate measuring are CRITICAL to your success as a machine knitter.
Use your measured gauge to knit a 6-inch square and see how accurately your finished knitting matches your calculations.
Test yourself with this exercise:
- Knit a proper swatch.
- Let it rest, wash, and block it.
- Carefully measure and calculate your gauge.
-
Calculate the stitches and rows for a 6" square.
Cast on: {Stitches per inch × 6} stitches
Knit: {Rows per inch × 6} rows
- Knit a square according to your calculations.
- Let it rest, wash, and block it.
- Does your square fit inside the template? Is it accurate? If not, double-check your gauge measurements and try again.
