If you have a ribber, you can utilize both beds. This is also called "U" knitting.
But remember, on Japanese machines automatic stitch patterning only occurs on the main bed. This solution will produce a wide piece of plain stockinette knitting.
You can use a textured or variegated yarn ... or even stripes to jazz up the plain knitting and create a wide knitted piece - get creative!
