Most knitting patterns do not include bust darts. Many knitters simply rely on the stretch of the knitted fabric.
BUT . . . Simply adding a few rows of knitting to the center front of your sweaters will add comfort and allow your sweaters to hang parallel to the floor.
Unlike adding rows for a rounded back or tummy, darts are positioned to point to the fullest part of the bust, adding length and shape to a sweater.

Adding Bust Darts
Use the tabs below to explore different methods for adding bust darts.
Knit it Now Dynamic Patterns include a link to a tool to help you add bust darts. Watch how it's done.
Use the Knit it Now Tool to calculate your Bust Dart Shaping
Add bust dart shaping to your mylar to be used with a charting device.
- Draw the front piece as desired (without darts)
- Determine the positioning and depth of your dart
- Add the dart to the mylar (just draw a line)
- When you reach the start of the dart, note the row counter
- Use the Knit it Now Dart Tool (the magic formula or graph paper) to determine the knitting instructions
- Pause the charting device
- Work the dart(s) with short row shaping
- Finish by knitting 1 row across all held needles
- RESET YOUR ROW COUNTER to the count before starting the dart
- Continue knitting the front
